. .. .. .. . . .You know of a time when everything you day dreamed came true. When a child’s thoughts soon becomes reality. At what point in our life did we lose this ability. Many recall every exact moment (or so they clamed) of their childhood’s hopes and dreams, but we never really remember them. Nor are we allowed to. We see the children playing games in their heads, but are they really just imagination. Have we lost some key memory from growing up? Could we some how renter to the wonderful world again? ............... “Miss Aira Ann, we are writing a fiction story not a fantasy one,” Mr. Greene crumbled up my story and throw it into the trash. “Now get to work little Missy before class ends.” ............... “But… Never mind,” I stared at my pencil trying to brainstorm on an idea to write about, but I was out of ideas. My lungs let out a heavy sigh as I laid my head down on the cool flat surface of my desk watching the second hand in a mesmerized state. It had not occurred to me that I had drifted off to sleep causing me to miss lunch.
~ - ~ - ~ - ~ ............... “Aira!” whinnied Alice, “can’t you at least buy your OWN after school snack instead of stealing mine?!” She tried to grab her Doritos from my hungry grasp. ............... “You know, just as clearly as I know, that you have no chance what so ever of getting it back,” Rosaline commented as she gazed over her book. ............... “Oh shut up!” I aimed a rock right at Rosaline’s noggin and… missed. ............... “That’s the best you can do?” ............... “Nope. I can throw better but you’re not worth seeing my perfect aiming skills.” I started to walk away with Alice’s prized Doritos. ............... “AIRA!” Alice tackled me from behind knocking me to the ground with her on top of me. She pried the Doritos from my grasp and started to run off as she stuck her tongue out at me. ............... “Wow… I can’t believe it!” Rosaline fell to the ground clenching her chest. “SHE ACUALLY GOT IT BACK!” Her attempt to hold in her laughter failed as she began to wail out giggling in disbelief. With my head hanged low, I slowly walked away still hungry and with my stolen food toke away from me.
~ - ~ - ~ - ~ ............... My watch alarm went off signaling that I was late for dinner. “Oh crap! Oh crap! This can’t be happening!” I paced myself in a steady jog trying to determine the fastest route home. ............. “Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!” The sun was setting causing the street lamps to turn on as a jogged in place. ............. “If I go straight on Lake Avenue then I’ll get home in,” I murmured to myself trying to estimate the total time to get home, “about 12 minutes, or…” my full attention focused on the gloomy bike trail path that cut through the woods. ........... “Oh no! I would have to be… insane to go that way, but it would be faster.” I made up my mind’s quick decision. ............ “Okay through the woods!” A chilled breeze swept through the branches sending a shiver up my spine as goose bumps began to form on my forearms. ............ Maybe I should regret ever setting foot on that path, but I don’t… I never will and never have wished I went down Lake Avenue instead. For my life changed for the better and… for the worse.
