Prologue
Alkina stepped out of the shadows. She slipped through the darkness towards a large oak. It was a full Moon and her red eyes reflected its light. Her black hair shimmered and waved in the slight breeze. Her pale face seemed even lighter in the moons shine. Her fangs glinted daringly.
"Hello." said a low voice that was emitted from under the tree. "Deirain, do you have it?" questioned Alkina threateningly "Of course my dear, have I ever failed you?" he said. Alkina softened slightly and smiled "Well then give it here." she whispered Deirain grinned showing his fangs, he stepped out of the shadows and removed his hood "Never!" he hissed gleefully Alkina smiled and lunged at him!
Chapter 1 The VMBE
The Moon was full, and Alkina was taking her nightly walk through the park. It was late autumn and the breeze was crisp and fresh. Her black hair was tied in a bun and her eyes were hidden by shaded glasses. She carried a white cane, giving the impression that she was blind. Of course Alikina was not blind, just modest. She had no wish of attracting attention to her blood red eyes. Alkina was also slightly pale. It appeared she had had an overdose of flour and she was not entirly happy about it. She had once fussed over large amounts of make up but had given up entirly after having nearly burning her skin off! Now Alkina vowed to only to take her walks at night so nobody would see her palid face.
Tonight Alkina was hasty, she had somewere to be and did not wish to be late. She walked briskly toward the center of the park were a small group of hooded figures waited. As she aproached a few greetings were exchanged and one by one the figures began removing there hoods. They all looked somewhat similar to one another. All having black hair, pale faces, and red eyes. "Hello Derain." said Alkina greeting the one familiar face. This was her first time in the circle of VMBE, The Vampire Moon Beam Exchange.
Chapter 2 Somthing Unexpected
The one thing most people don't know about vampires is that they not only feed on blood but on moon beams as well! Of course not just any moon beams but blue moon beams that must be corectly summoned with a group of five or more vampires.
The group broke up about an hour before dawn. Alkina made her way slowly back to her apartment. Upon entering she threw her jacket and keys on couch and colapsed in an easy chair. Alkina closed her eyes and before she knew it it was dark out. Time to feed!
Alkina slipped out of her apartment building and strowed confidently down the street. Near the end of the first block she stopped abruptly and stared through the window of a small theater. A prime spot. Small dark were everyone is occupied by the movie. Alkina walked innocently up to the counter and purchased a ticket. Then as to not draw attention to herself took off her glasses and hid her cane in the womens bathroom (blind people dont go to the movies). The movie was a romantic period peice about queen Elizebeth. Alkina was utterly bored. Finaly she got up the courage to sit next to a kind young man. Her plans were quickly foiled when his girlfriend reentered the theater and gave her an extremly hostile glare. Next Alkina sat next to a rather old looking woman. Near the end of the movie she got up sudenly nearly overturning the womans popcorn. She walked out of the theater feeling some what guilty. She didn't really enjoy picking off random people at a movie theater. Alkina entered a quite looking bar and ordered a beer. She did not enjoy any drink or food other than blood but got entertainment out of pretending to be normal.
A suited middle age man plopped down in the seat next to her and ordered a margarita. Alkina looked him over as he delicatly sipped his well accesorised drink.
He glanced at her and she quickly looked away. Blushing slightly she tasted her beer. It tasted like clorine but she drank it anyway. He continued to stare at her and Alkina's blush deepened as she realized she had forgoten to put on her sunglasses. It was of course to late to pretend blind now. She would have to pay for her stupidness by having everyone goggle at her strange appearence.
Alkina of course imagined that the man was staring at her because of her unusual skin tone and eye color and was ready to move when he suprised her. "So your a beer drinker?" he asked in a friendly tone. Startled she stuttered out a reply "umm w-w-well ya. I guess so." the man smiled kindly and called over the waiter "Another beer for the lady please!" He said smiling while he pulled out his wallet. Alkina thanked him profusly and offered (without luck) to pay him back. The man stood up paid the waiter and handed Alkina a buisness card "The names Henry and if you ever need anything or just want to get together give me a call!" and with that Henry exited the bar.
The whole way home Alkina was floating in a cloud. Somebody actually liked her for who she was. Even on top of her unapealing looks she was bearable, even more than that, she was likable! She was astounded and pleased. She carefully placed the card onto the coffee table. It was almost dawn, time for sleep.
