Moonglow stood tall as the man of her dreams walked slowly down the path. Tears sparkled lightly in her eyes, then slowly ran down her cheeks. The children sat silently at her feet as they also watched their father walk away. She waited, and he turned.
They said nothing as their eyes met for the last time. They would not see or hear from each other for quite some time, but that would be alright. Moonglow trembled a little, but stood straight again and brought her hand up to her brow in a perfect salute to her soldier. He had to go, and she knew this. Each of the children in turn did the same, if they knew how.
"Chin up, soldier, you've got a job to do," she said quietly, to the wind. She knew full well he could hear what she said, and knew he would keep his head up.
For you are my strength, as much as I am yours...
