And now it's time for...!
Chapter 2

They had been away that day. The boy barely had time to wonder why when they returned again. Verchiel with a cut above his eye, one of his look alikes sporting a fine few knicks on his forearms. Uriel limped slightly, a gash on his leg.

"Healer! Get moving!" snarled the albino. The boy took his things into hand. Only the few things needed for the situation. He figured this would be the minimum he would see in his employment. More or less a good day, he surmised, as he taped down gauze over the man's glowering eye. He hurried on, lest the Angel suddenly have heat-beam power in his eyes.

He slapped on a few Bandaids over the lackey's cuts. No need to linger here either. The teen slowed when he came to the black winged one, kneeling slowly as he began bandaging the wound carefully. What'm I supposed to do when they're gone? he thought agitatedly, glancing about. I could just as well sneak out of here and...

"They can hear your thoughts, you know." The voice nearly made the fifteen-year-old jump out of his skin. He dropped the bandage, hand shooting out and grasping it in a white-knuckled fist before it could hit the floor. He steadied himself.

"They can?"

"Yes. Be more careful about what you think next time."

"Why can't they hear us now?"

"Honestly, do you think I'd tell you the reason?"

"Probably not."
He gave a noncommital shrug, barely noticable as nothing more than tearing the fabric and fastening it down. "Maybe we can talk more later, 'kay, Uri?"

The eyes followed him, a smirk alighting on the brilliant face. Uri...

====

He sat beside the tracker boy, whose name he had discovered was Stevie. So far he had only been able to glean a little information from him about his past: a limited repition of words and sounds mostly consisting of Aaron and Angels.

"You're quiet again." He looked up at the man standing over him. Uriel settled himself beside the teen against the wall.

"Yeah, guess so." He glanced at the man, then tore his gaze away to stare at a random dust mote swirling in the fading light peeking through one of the windows. This one was cast in a brilliant gold sheen with tinges of red and coneflower purple.

He looked back again, hair falling over his eyes. A smile edged its way over the man's face as he brushed it away. Grease clung to his fingers.

"You haven't told me your name."

"Didn't really think you'd wanna know," admitted the Nephil, shrugging slightly. He grinned as the man widened his eyes at him. "Okay..." He leaned over and whispered into the Power's ear. "I know, it's stupi--"

"Beautiful."

"Beauti--what?" He gaped. No one had ever noticed him in school, much less complimented him about anything. Sure, one of his friends said he was cute, but that was just friendly banter. He had never had a girlfriend, much less ever been sought out by anyone to be their latest kick. Color flooded his cheeks. Beautiful?

What do I do? Oh, man, I don't know. I don't know what to do... He quivered, struggling to force his muscles, which had suddenly become deadened, into some sort of movement.

Instead, Uriel kissed him.

All thought processes ceased.

=====

He rolled over for the umpteenth time that night. He had found himself waking every two hours to think the same thing: I'm noticed? I got my first kiss? I'm gay? He half-wondered if any of the other Angels heard his semi-monotonous epiphany.

Soft lips kissed his gently, deleting his inner monologue to infinite pleasure. He let the warmth flow through his lavender-tinged skin, pressing against the Angel's chest as arms wound over his back, wings his bed covers that night.

"Why do you keep thinking that?" The language rang in his ears like bells, the Messenger tongue. He smiled. It was better than the jargen he knew was English, as beautiful as any foreign language, more so even, the way it flowed like music off the Angel's lips.

"I dunno. Guess I'm just surprised." A soft laugh escaped his companion. He was drawn close under his wings, kissed again.

"Go to sleep." Kissed his forehead. He settled, eyes closing.

"Thanks, Uri..."

Uriel closed his own eyes, nuzzled into the already mussed hair. Breathed in the peaceful scent.

Alex...

As always...Ah, hell, y'know what I'm gonna say! biggrin heeh.
