This is my fantasy story. It's only a prologue, so it's barely even touching the surface of this tale. sweatdrop This is a world that is both mideval/feudal and current-day. Guns and swords are both commomplace, as are airships and wooden fishing boats. Huge, technologically advanced cities with anti-gravity trains are contrasted by villages of wooden houses with horse-drawn carriages. The story is being tentatively called Shadow Chronicles. The light of the lamp post flickered in the street, and the cobblestones, wet with raindrops, reflected every bit of light cast upon them. Walking home, with groceries in hand, was a single man. He stopped his tread, and firmly called out, “I know you’re following me. You can come out, now.”
From the darkness of an alleyway came a figure - one that wasn’t quite human. It raspily questioned, “How long have you known?”
“Since I left the bar. Even in this form, you still reek of alcohol,” the man said with a sigh, his back still turned to the form. “I suppose you’ve come for my life?”
“At least you know your fate. Finally, you will pay for your sins,” The form said, stepping into the streetlight. It was a humanoid covered in fur, with fangs and tusks sticking out of it’s mouth, and many large horns on it’s head. It’s eyes, glowing red, were affixed on the man.
“Geez, you’re a big guy,” said the man, who, even at 6'2", was dwarfed by the giant. “And I keep telling you guys that I don’t know what ‘sins’ you’re talking about. Can’t you just leave me alone? I’d prefer to live a normal life...” The man sat his groceries on the sidewalk, and turned to face his adversary. “Besides, I don’t know what I could have done to piss off so many demons.”
“A normal life? Hah!” The creature started laughing. “If we let you live a normal life, then we won’t have our powers back. You must be sacrificed so that we, The Clan of Black Fire, can regain our former glory and power in the demonic realm!”
“Yeah, yeah. I know that already. I hear that every time one of you tries to kill me,” the man retorted, annoyed. “But even so, why me? And why sacrifice?”
“You know exactly why, you worthless human! You know exactly what you’ve done to us!”
Umm...no, I don’t...and nobody has ever told me. I only remember up ‘til a few years ago when I first woke up, thank you. “I don’t want to fight you...”
“Grah! You act as if you could even stand against me?! Die, you worm!!” The beast came rushing towards the man with it’s magically formed spear aiming at his head. There was a flash of light, and the man was now standing behind the minotaur demon. It had stopped in it’s tracks.
Suddenly, thick blood sprayed from it’s chest, and the demon fell on it’s back. Gasping, it tried to look at the man, who was holding a large, sharpened zweihander. The man walked over towards the demon’s still-stirring body, and looked solemnly into it’s eyes. “I’m sorry. I told you I did not wish to fight...”
As the demon’s soul passed on, and it’s body dissipated, the man sat down next to his groceries. “Why do things have to keep ending up like this?” the man asked himself, looking up at the stars in the night sky. He sat like that for a few minutes. “Oh, right. I need to get home and see how Clara is doing.” He simply got up, grabbed his groceries, and started walking home...
