The Ash Grove (Lithwen's Journal)
GSA, HIV, UNB, and other such initials.
Today was a good day. Not a "bleh" day, not an "ok" day, but a GOOD day, which is rare. Not that I'm complaining. In fact, I might even take things a step further and say that today was a GREAT day.

For one thing, the Health Center at school not only gave out books about Sex, but started a Gay Straight Alliance today ^_^
Ok, so explanation might to neccesary now.

The Sex book: These books have practically had their own mini-series in the news over the past few months (no, it wasn't as good as the rule mini-series in the LFGG). One side claimed they were excactly what kids in schools needed as they were informative, matter-of-fact, and educational. The other side claimed they were "filth". Health teachers were banned from using them to teach in class, but a lot of schools are giving them out to students now. After flipping through it, I think that the "no" side need their heads examined. If it weren't for the fact that I already know everything (I've had some great health teachers over the years), I'd say they were the most informative things I've seen. Anyways, the cover is pretty (it's designed to look like a notebook, presumably so you're not embarrassed if someone sees you carrying it around), and they're amusing to read out loud at lunch, and that's all that really matters.
But the STI warnings are, as usual, way overdone. Sorry folks, but I'm not going to get tested for HIV every time I get a needle. stare

As for the GSA, I've been wanting to be a member of one since that episode of Boston Public where THEY had one. When the announcement came on today, the idiots in my class actually laughed. Which only further encouraged me to join. I've also got three or four friends who I know are joining (it starts next week), so it should be fun ^_^ Hopefully, it will turn out to be a really good thing for the school.

And then in Law today, since it's a Grade Twelve course, I got to tag along with the actual grade twelves to a thing in the gym where all the universities and colleges had booths set up to let us know about their programs. RMC's not for me unfortunatly...no law courses. sad
But Dalhousie's always a good option, and I've also become aware of UNB- the University of New Brunswick. They've not only got one of the best law programs in the country, but one of the smallest. Only 80 students per semester I think. Something along those lines. I also had a great conversation with a rep from king's College. If I don't go into Law, I'm doing journalism. He was really informative, and I may go to the open house on Friday.

Anyways, Daddy's home, so that's enough for today.
