I heard you come into my room
In the middle of the night
My special Spirit don’t do that again
You gave me quite a fright!

You know that I can’t see you
‘Till the moon shines in your face
So please don’t sneak any more
When you arrive to my place

Oh, my guardian spirit
I wonder where now where you are
After I set you free
Did you become that brand new star?

It was when I was a small child
Maybe three or four
When you came for me the first time
And scared me to the core

You told me you were my guardian
One of the last to be assigned
You told me you weren’t bad at all
In fact you were very kind

You stayed with me for many long years
Through tough and thick and thin
You were always there for me
That’s where you’ve always been.

One day you told me
That you’d have to leave one day
When I grew too old for an imaginary
Though I’d hoped you’d always stay

Then was then but now I’m older
I just turned thirteen
That night of my birthday
You said you would leave me.

All I had to do for you, my Spirit
Is give you your own name
You told me when we first met
You Spirits were all called the same


A tear fell softly on my face
And you wiped it away
Told me not to cry
Because I knew this would happen someday

I still felt very saddened
That you had to go
I guess it was for the better
But then it didn’t feel as so.

I had until midnight
To give you your name
I wanted to hold onto this moment
Before that time came.

So I had a few hours
And I thought long and hard
I decided a name that was kind, sweet and caring
Oh Spirit, I named you Gerard.
