M for Mature - this movie contains swearing, a brief scean up upper body nudity, and disturbing content. I recommend this movie for anyone 14 or older.

The movie opens in 1988. 7. 16 Tokyo, with a bang as if some kind of energy force has been released on the ground moving out word like a grate dome. There is a time skip and the year is now 2019 exactly 31 years after World War three, Tokyo has been rebuilt and is now called Neo Tokyo.

It is very hard for me to give a review of Akira with out giving away some huge spoilers. But though out the movie you will here about something called project Akira, Akira was the first one to have his sleeping psychokinetic powers awakened. In the movie the same Psychokinetic powers possessed by Akira are awakened

.in the movie Tetsuo a young boy who suffers from a deeply rooted inferiority complex. After these abilities are awakened the inferiority complex seems to become a superiority complex. However Tetsuo can’t control his powers and this inevitably leads to what seems to be a very tragic ending.

Over all I have to give Akira a 9/10
The animation is truly old school but wonderfully done, the story did leave me wanting a little more. However it is based on a manga that I intend to read some day.
