Trix looked out over the edge of her Cliffside den on the Isle de Gambino. With her hand on her heart she felt a small tear drip onto her hand. So much had happened to her and now this. The Zurg had gone, abandoned them and disappeared. And the one she loved, that was what stung the most. Bobo had gone. Just like all those before her who had gone. Why was it her, did she have such a repelling personality that everyone she loved was taken away? No, it couldn’t be that after all, Kegg was still here.
She sat on the cliff, hoping for some trace of recognition on the faces of those on the beach below, but all they could see was a recluse, sat on the cliff, no-one to call her own. She remembered the day that, they came; the day that the repulsive Gambino and his vain son had stepped up on to the sandy beaches and declared the island his. The Isle de Gambino.
She stood at the window of the manor house, surveying the island below. She could see out to the bright fields of pea green grass and out to the white tipped waves where dolphins frolicked. She sighed, running her fingers through her hair that fell languorously down Trix’s back. But what was this? A ship on the southern shore? She knew that they weren’t expecting anyone, so why should a ship dock at such a remote island? She skipped down the stairs, bare feet hardly touching the white surface.
‘Father?’ she called, ‘We’re not expecting visitors are we?’
No response.
‘Father?’
An arm came out from behind the statue of a weeping nun and pulled her close.
‘We have to escape.’ Her father whispered urgently, his eyes bright with terror.
‘But why?’ she whispered, shocked at her father’s rash actions.
‘The visitors. They’ve come to overcome the island. There is no way to fight them off.’
‘Bu-‘
‘Just pack a bag and meet me here.’
Trix ran up the stairs and grabbed a small bag, stuffing it with clothes, shoes and her diary.
She forced her feet into her heavy walking boots and ran down the stairs, skidding to a halt. She saw the doors opening. They had come.
Trix looked up from her feet, another small pearly tear dropping onto the grass. Now she couldn’t eeven remember the faces of her family, forget about their mannerisms, personality and soul. She heard Kegg from in her den and turned round, looking out towards the Gambino’s manor. Hopefully one day they would get their just desserts.
