Twilight falls without warning.
Wait until dawn, whispers the wind.
Though the silence is loud and companionable,
Frog's pond disagrees;
The night grows darker,
It seems misunderstood!
With children a-wailing for hours...
Oh! but Darkness!
I do understand!
I will go present you some pity.
You see, Oh! Darkness!
You cast great shadows and woe;
But one thing I won't ever understand
Is how childish-- (shudder)
My lily! my lily!
It was basking in Frog's pond!
Now fills me with sorrow;
Stiff as a board!
Now now, stupid Darkness,
I'll run as you please!
Now I run for my life--
Stupid darkness!
