Imagine an embryo, not yet alive
 It’s been eight months now.
As he lays in waiting, he feels a beat.
Mother’s heartbeat. 75 beats per minute.
 The rhythm soothing to him.

Imagine an infant, not yet in school
 Staying home with mother.
The radio plays next to his crib.
A familiar beat. The rhythm: soothing.
 His mind is born again.

Imagine a child, not yet an adult
 Enjoying the weekend.
 His MP3 is playing.
Bass is enhanced. Energy flows through him.
This home is peaceful but for a few minutes.

Imagine an adult, not yet retired.
Sitting at home after a long workday.
 The television is on.
 Music videos role. He naps.
 The beat soothes his soul.

Imagine a senior, not yet dead
 It’s been a lifetime now.
As he lays in waiting, he feels a beat.
His heartbeat. 75 beats per minute.
 The rhythm soothing to him.
