The clock chimes six,
I awake with a start,
I find that I have skipped,
A single beat of my heart.
I run through the hallways,
To the living room outside,
To see what presents,
Lay under the Christmas tree, wide.
I look at the pile,
Searching for the gift,
I had set all my hopes on,
I'd worked many a shift.
I knew I wouldn't get it,
But it was always fun to hope,
Because getting this present,
Would make it fun to elope.
Why aren't you under my tree,
Wrapped in ribbon with care,
Why am I looking,
But can't find you there?
I wonder if Santa,
Forgot me this year,
Maybe he forgot to get me,
The thing I hold dear.
My eyes turn to the fireplace,
Where grey eyes met blue,
You were sitting on the masonry,
Nibbling on some food.
A cookie in your hand,
You met my eyes with a grin,
I thought to myself,
My god, Santa, you win.
I jumped to your arms,
Squealing with joy,
I had the Christmas gift I wanted,
I had my perfect toy.
